Top tips to challenge yourself means doing things that scare you.

It's time to just go for it. Check out these top tips to challenge yourself.

Growing up, I’ve always played it relatively safe. I’ve never been pulled over by a police officer, never had a single detention in high school and for my first job I always picked my outfit out the night before. However, as I’ve gotten older I’ve tried new things and said yes to opportunities, my 23 year-old self would be shaking in his boots right about now.

A common theme in my writing is trying something new and to always push yourself out of your comfort zone. It’s easy to stay complacent, but it’s exhilarating to go rogue sometimes and say f*ck it to everything you think you know.

If I wasn’t challenging myself and continuing to say yes to things that scare me, I wouldn’t be where I’m at in my life and career. I’m not here to tell you what to do, but the thought of leaning into unmarked territory is really rewarding and you might just surprise yourself.

Say yes more than no.

Traveling for me is a way to get reinspired about the world around me, my projects and what I write about. I’ve turned down opportunities in the past because frankly, I was afraid. My mind always went to the most negative situations imaginable. Self doubt is a real f*cking hater that I’m learning to ignore.

I started saying yes more and I’m not just talking about traveling. Forget everything that you think you know about yourself and be more open to what comes your way. I said yes to go on a 133 mile biking tour in Croatia with absolutely no street bike experience. A foreign country and a completely new and rigorous activity is a lot to handle but it turned out to be a highlight of my year so far.

Go for it and follow these top tips that challenge yourself.

It’s not about just being adventurous physically, but also mentally.

When I say to push yourself, it’s about anything going on in your life from friendships, work opportunities, social activities or whatever is going to make you happy no matter how silly you think it might be. Don’t let someone yuck your yum!

The mundane is so f*cking boring.

Life is short, social media makes us take ourselves way too seriously and honestly, what do you really have to lose? Post whatever you want online, wear whatever you want and go try something that freaking scares you.

When you’re sitting on a rocking chair on the front porch with your grandkids and loved ones one day, what are you going to tell them?

It better be a good story… and you can share these top tips to challenge yourself with them too.

Be good,

JB
