Avoid setting New Year's resolutions and focus on yourself every day of the year.

When the clock strikes midnight our lives are going to magically change, right? Nope. Avoid those New Year's resolutions!

January is filled with crowded gyms, fad diets and no alcohol. I'm not raining on anyone's parade and I do strongly promote anything that has a positive impact on someone's life, but I don't think New Year's resolutions should suddenly alter how we live.

In a way, it's almost setting us up to fail…if I'm not at a place in my life to implement a change, why force it? So let's pop champagne, watch the ball drop on TV, say goodbye to 2021 and go easy on ourselves. This is reason enough to avoid New Year's resolutions.

You don't need a new calendar year to make a change to your life.

Goal setting should fit into your life no matter what time of year it is. From new jobs to relationships and other changes, maybe January isn't the best time to fulfill resolutions. Do what works for you.

Small goals turn into bigger ones.

If you are setting goals for yourself, start small. For example, let's say you want to lose 10 lbs. That's a big goal, but where is the road map to get there? Maybe it's wanting to go to the gym 3 times a week, not eat junk food on weekdays or run 5 miles a week. These actionable activities will lead you to dropping those 10 lbs. But for the record, I think you look great as you are :)

Don't be too hard on yourself.

Living through the pandemic has been unlike any other time of our lives. We all know this – office culture is nonexistent, bars have become a danger zone and masks are the hottest new accessory. This isn't a life we're used to, but I've seen people really shine and become their best selves during these dark times in the most unexpected ways.

Keep rockin' it.

Sometimes you don't need a life altering resolution because you're kicking ass doing what you're doing. So stay motivated and don't fix what isn't broken.

Happy 2022, JB
